3rd Canadian All Islander Rendezvous
|
|
Every Islander on Puget Sound and the Gulf Islands of Canada's fabled Inside Passage will want to mark their calendars for the Genoa Bay All Islander Rendezvous in Genoa Bay on July 6th, 7th, & 8th. Greg & Leslie Mathews are organizing this great opportunity to cruise in, meet new friends and swap stories and knowledge about the great islander boats - yes, that's all sizes and shapes of Islanders. 3rd Canadian Islander Rendezvous Introduction Yes, there will be a 3rd Canadian Islander Rendezvous in July of 2007. The first Rendezvous were so much fun, Bert & Carey decided we (Greg and Leslie Mathews) had volunteered to put one on this year in Genoa Bay at the Genoa Bay Marina. I don't know if we can meet the expectations that the previous years successes demand, but we're going to give it a worthwhile effort. If you didn't make it to the previous Canadian Islander Rendezvous, thanks to webmaster and rendezvous participant Rick Van Mell, the Islander 36 Association of San Francisco Bay has posted the last two years' story on their web site at 2006 Rendezvous, and 2005 Rendezvous. Lots of photos! The 2007 edition will be at Genoa Bay Marina on Vancouver Island, near Duncan. If you've never been there have a look at http://www.genoabaymarina.com. Here's their road map to the marina: http://www.genoabaymarina.com/map.htm. It's also an idyllic setting in the beautiful Island, a great weekend destination, and you don't need a ferry to get there! Participants will have to make their own reservations with Will or Laura Kiedaisch at 746-7621 or 1-800-572-6481. I am not sure of the rates at this time; but it is about $1.05/foot plus $3 for power. Just like past years, boats will probably begin gathering on the Friday evening for an informal gathering over a glass of wine. Saturday there are a number of options with most participants meeting other Islander owners and showing off their boats. Someone may organise a short fun race on Saturday? There is a short van ride in to the town of Duncan, or a walk along country roads. Whatever your desires, we have reserved the pavilion for the Saturday evening dinner. (Will be in need of BBQ's at this time, as there is only one portable BBQ at Genoa Bay). Leslie & I will be supplying everything but whatever it is you wish to barbecue. We ask everyone to bring an appetizer. If you were there last year, you know what that can be like! Bring your own plates and cutlery! For Sunday morning we'll have the coffee urn fired up nice and early along with sticky buns and muffins. As in past years, we're going to try to keep the costs to a minimum. We hope to see many friends at this event, and would like to meet new Islander owners as well. I will be posting more information as July approaches. PS. If this looks very familiar, it is Bert's e-mail from last year with a few changes. I hope Leslie and I can meet the expected results from the great get togethers from previous years. Any questions, ideas or comments then please get back to me: gmathews@shaw.ca If you are thinking of attending this event, please use the reservation form below. We are planning to make up boat information sheets similar to 2006 and if we could receive the Reservation and Information Form as posted on this web page, it would make our work far more efficient. Thanks to the I-36 Association of San Francisco Bay for making this form available. I will be posting more information as July approaches. (Be sure to make your dock reservations directly with Genoa Bay Marina.) For our friends who wish they could join us but can't make it this time, send in the form with the appropriate box checked and we'll share your thoughts at the rendezvous, and hope you can make it another time. ______________________________________________________________________ For additional detail or questions, contact event Coordinators Greg & Leslie Mathews New Spirit, I-37 Pilot House model, Genoa Bay, B.C. |
