July 4th Weekend - Sequoia Yacht Club
Friday, July 1, 2005 - Monday, July 4, 2005

Batten the hatches, strap on your swords, and shiver me timbers, it's going to be a Pirates Rendezvous at the Sequoia Yacht Club for the July 4th weekend. We're even starting off with a sailing rally to exercise your navigation skills and demonstrate how skillful we Islanders are at sweeping the Bay clear of pirates! Get all the details below.

Last year we were ambushed by Royaliste, and their wicked Captain & Crew who captured brave Islanders Dennis & Judy.

This year we must be prepared to protect ourselves and Sequoia YC from any pillaging!. Dress accordingly, swagger the docks, and prepare for a great weekend. Our success in defending Sequoia will be celebrated with great fireworks on Monday night.

The Plan

Saturday, July 2nd

1045 - Gather at the Bay Bridge tower east of the center block at 1045 for an 1100 rally run down the bay to Sequoia Yacht Club. To stop these pesky Pirates, our armada must be sharp and shipshape. Seamanship prevails at close quarters, so to demonstrate our prowess, the brave and bold will perform a predicted-log type rally run past waypoints to the Redwood City channel entrance. Prizes to the boats that use their seamanship to best predict their travel time. Rally Rules and Waypoints.

1700 - Happy Hour begins aboard boats flying the Jolly Roger in their rigging.

1745 - Pirate's Muster and retreat to the Sequoia Clubhouse with a round of hors d'oeuvres and partake of their fine kegs of various distilled spirits. Be prepared to repel boarders should any dare to attack the clubhouse while Islanders are afoot!

1845 - Pirates Mess begins in the wardroom as the fine Sequoia Yacht Club crew dish out a hearty buffet of Teriyaki Chicken and Salmon with a dill wine sauce fresh from Sequoia's world famous galley. The cost in treasure for Mates and Lasses is targeted at $10, wee Lads and Lassies (under 12) a mere $5, babes are free. All hands will clear tables and a few volunteers may be needed on KP duty.

2000 - Gather again in the Fo'castle for the singing of shanties with guitar player Rick and other brave souls who'd like to play. Words provided for you to sing along. (They sound better the more grog you consume!)

Sunday, July 3nd

0830 - 1000 A hearty breakfast of French toast with sausages, plus Juice and coffee served in the clubhouse, again by our fine Sequoia hosts. Pieces of Eight for Mates and Lasses is $5, wee Lads and Lassies a mere $2.50. Galley slaves may again be Shanghaied as needed.

1500 - Sunset By the gracious invitation of Peter and Louisa Szasz, an afternoon gathering at their home in Redwood Shores. We bring our potluck dishes and beverages fit for Commanders, Commodores and Admirals to share with all. Transportation will be provided to and fro.

Monday, July 4th

0800 - 1000 Light breakfast of coffee, juice, bagels & fruit available in the clubhouse. $5 per person.

1000 - 1230 July 4th Parade in Redwood City - maps available when you arrive, and some transportation will also be available. There will be craft shops open too. The starting point is Brewer & Winslow streets. You can walk it if you like a little exercise.

1700 Sequoia YC July 4th BBQ spread put on by Sequoia members. This may be a BYO main dish to grill while Sequoia provides the sides - we'll keep you posted as things develop. Price TBD.

2130 Redwood City fireworks display after sunset. Tune your radios to 102.3 FM for the accompanying concert! Great viewing right from the docks, or walk over to the channel side. It's a wonderful way to wrap up the weekend.

Friday, July 1st

If you would like to come down on Friday night, a Drop-in Dinner available starting at 1900 hours, typically $10 - $12.
