Under the Bay BridgeCalifia Wins Three Bridge Fiasco Race
The Three Bridge Fiasco is a race sponsored by the Singlehanded Sailing Society. It is a pursuit start, meaning the slowest boats start first, and each boat (or class) has it's own starting time. The start and finish line was off the Golden Gate Yacht Club. The marks of the course were Blackaller Buoy, near the south tower of the Golden Gate Bridge, Red Rock, near the San Rafael Bridge, and Yurba Buena Island - in the middle of the Bay Bridge. The marks may be rounded in any order, and in any direction! And, you can race either single-handed or double-handed and spinnaker or non-spinnaker. The Islanders raced double-handed, non-spinnaker.
This ws the first race this year to have an individual Islander 36 section, and the Winner was Tim Bussiek, with crew Helmut Kaiser aboard Califia. It was Tim's first victory with Califia! Congratualtions! The rest of the story..
Happy New Year'Round Alameda Parade
Even by Bay Area standards, you don't expect to usher in the New Year in shirtsleeves and sun screen. But that's just what Saturday the 31st and Sunday, January 1st brought with blue skies and light winds for an almost perfect welcome to 2012. Your Islander flotilla departed the Gate 8 docks at 1025, with Luna Sea leading the way. Skipper Dan Knox turned the helm over to Commodore Melton for the day, and the rest of the crew included Nanci, Myphi, Rick & Art. Natural High, with Golden Retriever Tucker patrolling the deck, followed with Roger & Linda aboard, and stopped at Encinal YC (just a short 5 minutes down the Estuary) to pick up Fred & Barbara. Ophira hauled Gary & Pat plus Skyler & Bryanna, and Wild Horses with Rob & Ruby rounded out the 4-boat fleet. In total we had 9 boats represented by 18 people. What do you mean - streamer attack? - running aground? 115 pictures and 5 videos await: 'Round Alameda.
